301 Stainless Steel Properties

301 Stainless Steel is a commonly used engineering material. This page provides a complete data sheet including composition, mechanical properties, thermal properties, and typical applications. Use this information for material selection, engineering design, and comparison with similar grades.

Overview

Type 301 is an austenitic stainless steel alloy which offers high strength and good corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments at ambient temperature.

Good Ductility The alloy is suitable for all forms of welding and displays good ductility when cold worked. 301 stainless can also be readily formed and drawn. Type 301L is the low carbon version of Type 301 and is suitable for applications which require good ductility. High strength combined with excellent corrosion resistance makes 301 stainless ideal for a wide range of applications in sectors such as aerospace, rail and automotive.

Benefits Type 301 stainless steel is a high strength austenitic alloy with good ductility properties when cold worked. With excellent corrosion resistance, the material can be easily welded.

Typical Applications

Commercial applications for this engineering material include: - Automotive wheel covers
